Blessings for the New Year!
As 2008 is closing and 2009 is approaching, I can’t help but think “wow, this is the year that I become a Mommy”. I guess in some ways it just hasn’t hit me in a *complete* sense. Yeah, sure, I know we are having a child – the many twirls, kicks and rolls going on in my belly tell remind me so…but it just. hasn’t. HIT. me. Know what I mean?
We are counting down our days…we make 25 weeks today! So let’s go down the checklist of “identifiers” and milestones of this week according to BabyCenter Canada…
- Got a dark line running down your belly? Yuppers, check! Otherwise, um, whose been drawing on my belly while I’ve been sleeping?
- Change in your complexion? Check! Got the all-day Disney pink cheeks!
- Have an aching “everything“? Uh huh! It’s a 12 step process to get out of the bed and walk anywhere! Usually at 3am, I have to make that decision about whether or not I think I can hold it till the morning bc it just takes too long to get anywhere!
But it’s all definitely and absolutely worth it!!! I am so excited to know our little boy is growing inside of me and this year THIS YEAR we will get to meet him! It’s amazing to think that right now, he’s about 1.5 lbs and about a foot long (head to heel).
And it seems like we have our choice: do we want to think of our baby as an eggplant or a rutabaga???
Decisions, decisions eh?
Happy New Year to all those expecting 2009 mommies!

“It’s the most wonderful (and random) time of year” blog
Wow, it’s been a while…..this month became extremely busy and it shows for this is my only post for this month! Wow! I was taking a class and was furiously working on a project/presentation and we hosted American Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner at our house…and since we live in Canada, we also had a family gathering for Boxing Day (think Day-After-American-Thanksgiving shopping minus the crazy Walmart episode or 4am shopping!)….so it’s been a month or so of eating, shopping, eating, decorating, nesting, eating, cleaning spots that hadn’t even been noticed at our Home Inspection a year ago (but they had to be clean for the family dinners!) and craft making….!! I loved getting the house ready for Christmas…and also realizing that next Christmas our baby will be about 8 months old….so we will have to child-proof our house….anyhow…
So we made 6 months on Christmas day— here is the most recent picture of the growing (and itchy!) belly…
One really cool update is that we found a name for our son…we thought we had a name picked out months ago but recently changed it….it’s not for release but here is a clue: it’s either a “D” or an “E”. YES, we are gonna be one of THOSE families, where we all share the same initials…or at least of the first name.
Some funny updates and other random wonderful things:
1. We painted the baby’s room…it’s a “to-the-max” soft grayish green…so soft that my husband says it looks white and matches the ceiling! And really cool, the name of the paint color is Wisdom…so our baby can be surrounded by wisdom. You may or may not get it, but to us Christians, it’s pretty cool….
2. The baby is very active: kicking, rolling, dancing, playing soccer with my bladder….yes, he will be a truly energetic little one! I try very often to get my husband’s hand on my belly while the baby is kicking but then…the baby, just stops! Like, the baby becomes reflective and still for that moment. We wait to see if he might kick and then the absolute moment that my husband takes his hand off…yup, you guessed it, little baby dot just starts kicking again. Already, he is playing games with us!
3. I now have a half-outtie belly button. Do this: put your lips into a “big smooch” shape and then push over to the right side…that’s about what my belly button looks like right now…:) I will spare you the pics!
4. On Boxing Day, my husband and I went to a Book Warehouse and got many books for our little one….why is this so cool??? Well, everything in the store was 50% off — so we only spent about 30 bucks! I can’t wait to read to our son! I can say that I definitely “grew up” in a library and has loved reading ever since. I want to bring that joy and learning experience to our son.
Soon I will update with nesting accomplishments, completed crafts and pics from the family gatherings!

on being outnumbered….
so it’s official!!! We are having a little boy!!!! I will be the only female in the house….
We went to our ultrasound and after about an hour — because the baby was moving around sooo much, the tech was able to pinpoint the “boy parts” and said there you go — it’s a boy!!!! (Funny side note: we’ve been hearing about “testimonies” for the last week and so when the tech said “there’s the testicles”, my husband heard “there’s the testimony”….heheh which, I guess, in some case, is true!!! There’s our little boy’s testimony that he is a boy!)
And an active little one at that!!!! He’s been moving around, kicking, squirming — definitely letting us know of his presence. I almost ate some chocolate before the ultrasound—I am glad that I didn’t, for I might have been kicked off the table with how active he is!!!
That night, it was so amazing for while praying, we actually said “our son” and we both opened our eyes and started giggling and smiling — for it was just so real. Without a doubt, we are pretty happy parents to be!
